From Hacoo to Taobao: reading shoe, women's and room-decor rows in a Taobao list, and buying them through an agent

Last updated .

Short answer: Taobao is one of China's largest consumer marketplaces, and many items sold in the Hacoo app have twins there. Most Taobao sellers don't ship abroad, so you buy through a shopping agent, which also photographs items before they leave China. Taobao links look like item.taobao.com/item.htm?id= followed by a number; that number is what agents use. Taobao lists are often split into shoes, women's clothing and room decor, and they convert to any agent with our converter.

Why Taobao matters to a Hacoo shopper

Hacoo's catalogue comes from Chinese sellers, and Taobao is one of the biggest places Chinese consumer goods are listed. So when you trace a Hacoo item back to its source with an image search, Taobao is one of the places it most often turns up. Buying it there, through an agent, gives you something Hacoo doesn't: photos of your actual item in a warehouse before it ships, and the chance to combine it with items from other sellers in one parcel. Our Hacoo-to-agent guide covers the tracing.

Taobao is often where a Hacoo item comes from.

Reading a Taobao link

A Taobao product address has one important part: the number after id= in item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=…. Everything else is tracking. Agents identify the product by that number, so the same Taobao item can be bought through any agent. Old spreadsheet rows in a closed agent's format, such as CNFans, often still contain it. Our converter extracts the number and builds links for agents that are open.

Taobao links in pages like this one are shown as plain text. If you open Taobao directly, expect a Chinese-language site that may ask you to log in.

The item number is all an agent needs.

The three categories people search most

Taobao list categories
CategoryWhat to checkHacoo comparison
ShoesFoot length in cm; ask for sole and label photosHacoo ships without photos; size errors found at home
Women's clothingBust, waist, hip in cm; fabric lineSame sizing issues; 15-day return window on Hacoo
Room decorPacked size and weightHacoo adds $5 per extra 0.5 kg above 3 kg

Shoes and women's clothing behave much like their Hacoo equivalents; our shoe and women's pages explain sizing. Room decor is different: bulky items are priced by volume on many agent lines, so measure first.

Size by centimetres, price bulky items by volume.

Choosing an agent for Taobao

Every open agent on our list buys from Taobao. The differences that matter for a Hacoo shopper are storage time, photos and payment methods. Superbuy publishes no service fee for Taobao and Tmall orders, KakoBuy offers 100 days of storage, and HooBuy lists European methods like SEPA and Blik. See the full status list before choosing, and pay per order.

Any open agent can buy Taobao; pick by storage, photos and payment.

Taobao through an agent, or Hacoo?

If the item exists on both, choose by order size. One light item: Hacoo's single checkout is simpler. Several items, or anything size-sensitive: the Taobao-plus-agent route lets you check and consolidate. Price both in our calculator, or ask our WhatsApp service for one delivered price.

Hacoo for one; Taobao via an agent for many.

A small Taobao haul, start to finish

  1. Pick three Taobao listings: say, one pair of shoes, one top and one decor item.
  2. Convert them with the converter and add them to an open agent's cart.
  3. Pay for the items only, with nothing extra loaded into the wallet.
  4. Check each warehouse photo against the listing: shoe size label, top measurements, decor dimensions.
  5. Ask the agent to remove the shoe box and to quote the packed weight and size.
  6. Choose a line that collects your country's tax upfront, then pay shipping once for the whole parcel.

That routine takes a little longer than one Hacoo checkout, but it shows you every item before it travels and ships all three together. If any step feels like too much, our WhatsApp service does the same job for one quoted price.

Three items, one parcel, every piece checked.

As you get used to Taobao listings, you'll also notice that many sellers offer the same item in more colours than Hacoo shows, which is another reason buyers trace their Hacoo finds back to the source.

Taobao questions from Hacoo shoppers

Can I buy from Taobao without an agent?

For most foreign buyers, not easily. Many Taobao sellers only ship within China, the site is mainly in Chinese, and payment options for foreign cards are limited. Shopping agents solve this: they buy the item, receive it in a Chinese warehouse, photograph it and ship it to you. That is the route we describe on our agent pages.

How do I recognise a Taobao link?

A Taobao product link usually reads item.taobao.com/item.htm?id= followed by a long number, sometimes with extra tracking parameters. Tmall links look similar on detail.tmall.com. The number after 'id=' identifies the product. Our converter reads it from any Taobao or Tmall link, or from an agent link that contains one, and builds links for several agents.

Are Hacoo items also sold on Taobao?

Many are, because Hacoo's products come from Chinese sellers and some list the same item on Taobao. Not all do; some listings are exclusive to the app. The way to check is an image search with the Hacoo product photo, then a comparison of size chart and material. If they match, an agent can buy the Taobao version with photos before shipping.

What is in a Taobao room-decor list?

Usually lamps, rugs, shelving, bedding, posters and small storage pieces, often picked for a particular style. Room decor is bulky, so shipping cost by volume matters more than for clothes. Ask the agent to weigh and measure the packed parcel before you pay for shipping, and compare with the price of a similar item bought locally.

Is buying from Taobao safe?

Taobao is a large, established marketplace, but quality varies by seller. Through an agent you have a checkpoint: warehouse photos let you spot problems before international shipping, and exchanges with the seller happen inside China. Read the seller's ratings and buyer photos, pay the agent per order, and avoid items carrying other companies' trademarks.
